My hibiscus "blue satin" is finally blooming! It is more of a lavender than blue, but it's still beautiful. There are enough buds that we should have at least one bloom every day for the next few weeks. They don't last long, unfortunately.
I also have some hydrangea that is flowering. I asked Patrick to bring home some rusty nails or a wrench, to bury under the roots and "blue" the blooms (he couldn't find anything). Grandpere used to bury a rusty wrench under his hydrangea. I read up on soil composition, and found out that either low pH, acidic soil, or highly ferrous soil cause the blue color in the flowers. I was really into grapefruit that week, and ground up some grapefruit peels in the food processor. I buried the grindings in the soil, and managed to turn the pink blooms greenish. I'm thinking maybe the chelated iron from the nursery will be more effective, although the green is interesting.
